AVEW on Course as Planning Meeting is Held
 23rd Apr 2019

On 16th April, 2019 the Commission held a meeting at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) that brought together staff from the Headquarters and County offices to plan and deliberate on proposed modalities of carrying out this year’s Annual Voter Education Week (AVEW).

AVEW is an annual event that offers voters and the public at large an opportunity to interact with the IEBC staff across the country for a face-to-face customer-service experience. This year the Commission plans to carry out this event in the month of June. During the event, the Commission will address the public’s concerns stemming from the last General Election (GE), Fresh Presidential Election (FPE) as well as spelling out planned electoral activities in the next electoral phase.

While officially opening the AVEW planning meeting IEBC Chairman, Wafula Chebukati, reiterated the importance of engagements and dialogue between the Commission and its stakeholders on all IEBC activities throughout the electoral cycle. The Chairman added that many lessons had been learnt from the past two Voter Education Weeks, which shall be incorporated in this year's and future AVEW programmes.

All the 290 constituencies in the Country will device a tailor-made outreach strategy to ensure maximum reach of all potential and registered voters. The exercise will also be used to upscale the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise that is ongoing in all constituencies except those with impending by-elections.

Some of the outreach programmes being worked on include roadshows, walks, concerts, town hall meetings, village barazas among many others. AVEW is spearheaded by the Directorate of Voter Education, Partnerships, and Communications.
