Commission Inducts New Staff on Electoral Process and Work Etiquette
 30th Dec 2021

The arrival of new recruits in IEBC prompts a rummage through their roots and history, to align them with the Commission’s work culture. It was on this premises that 64 newly recruited officers were inducted from 19 to 23 December 2021 in Naivasha. The new officers include Managers, Constituency Elections Coordinators, Constituency Administrative Assistants, Procurement Officers, Accountants and Warehouse Assistants.

The induction programme was overseen by Commissioner Boya Molu who welcomed the new officers and informed them that the Commission’s culture and code of conduct are critical as they reflect IEBC’s overall goals. “The induction programme is a requirement as per the Commission's Human Resource Policy and Manual. Some of the areas covered in the induction include but are not limited to; the electoral cycle, electoral technology, election materials, election management best practices, and simulations of the electoral process,” said Commissioner Molu.

During the induction, Lornah Onyango, Director of Human Resource and Administration, underscored the need for a positive workplace culture, which helps attract best talent, drive engagement, impact happiness and satisfaction, which are all propelled to improve the Commission’s delivery of its mandate.

The induction programme covered the human resource expectations including work etiquette, electoral process, election cycle, election technology, election materials, election officials, election management best practices and legal framework, among others. Importantly, the participants were taken through the process of candidate registration using Candidate Registration Management System (CRMS), voter identification using Electronic Voter Identification System (EVI) and process of presidential results transmission using Result Transmission System (RTS).

Participants also held mock elections through the simulation of voting day activities at polling stations where they played roles of presiding officer, security, voting clerks, voters, party agents, media and observers while observing Covid-19 protocols.

Rasi Masudi, Director of Voter Registration and Electoral Operations, assured the newly recruited staff of the Commission’s support as they prepare to conduct the 2022 General Election. “The Commission will always stand with you. This is because elections conducted by IEBC are about the law and the Commission’s fidelity is to the law and not to an individual or authority. IEBC officers need to engage and work in harmony with all our stakeholders and voters,” said Masudi.
