CVR targets to grow the 19.3M register of voters by 3% in a year

Wote, Makueni, 15th October, 2018

The IEBC has launched a Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) countrywide. The CVR exercise targets to increase the number of voters by at least 3%, from the 19.6 Million voters enrolled as at 2017 to 20.1 Million by June, 2019.

The launch was made at Wote town, Makueni County. Prof Kivuta Kibwana said “it is important to conduct civic education on voter registration so as to empower the voters and also to educate them against ethnic mindset when voting” Prof Kibwana thanked IEBC for choosing to launch the important exercise in Makueni. He promised to work closely with IEBC to enhance civic education and voter registration.

IEBC’s Chairman, Mr. Wafula Chebukati, said the Commission had addressed issues raised in the KPMG report on the Register of Voters. “We also expect an improvement in the accuracy of the register of voters by implementing the KPMG recommendations”.

The Continuous Voter Registration CVR provides an opportunity to:

  • Register eligible voters especially the youth and special interest groups
  • Allow transfers from one electoral area to preferred electoral areas
  • Correct any errors identified by KPMG audit
