IEBC Conducts PPLC Elections

On April 16th, 2019 the Commission presided over Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC) Steering Executive Committee elections at the Lake Naivasha Resort in Naivasha. PPLC was established pursuant to the Provision of Section 38 of the Political Parties Act, 2011 to provide a platform for dialogue between the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), IEBC and Political Parties. A team led by Commissioner Prof. Abdi Guliye, Salome Oyugi - Manager Political Parties and David Mbui - CEC Naivasha provided election materials (nine ballot boxes, seals and a hacksaw), logistical and technical support while being assisted by a team from the ORPP.

 

Two pre-election meetings were held in April, 2019, during which there were deliberations on the rules and guidelines for the elections. It was resolved that the IEBC would supervise the elections and the Commissioner representing the Commission in the PPLC, Prof. Abdi Guliye,  or his representative would supervise the elections while being assisted by Salome Oyugi.  Mr. David Mbui was named the Returning Officer of the election. The team assured all voters and candidates of a free, fair and credible election.

 

There were eight hotly contested positions namely; Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Treasurer, Deputy Treasurer, Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Organising Secretary, Deputy Organising Secretary.

 

The following were voted into the PPLC Steering Executive Committee.  

  1. Chairperson - Nyakera Wilson Irungu (DP)
  2. Deputy Chairperson - Evans Misati (Progressive Party of Kenya)
  3. Secretary - Margaret Andanyi (ANC)
  4. Deputy Secretary - Alice Gathoni (Agano Party)
  5. Treasurer - Nicodemus Bore (Jubilee Party)
  6. Deputy Treasurer - Gerson Owiti (Alternative Leadership Party)
  7. Organising Secretary - Julius Wambua (PICK)
  8. Deputy Organising Secretary - Koyoo Omondi (National Liberty Party)
