"The best partnerships aren't dependent on a mere common goal but on a shared path of equality, desire, and no small amount of passion." - Sarah Maclean

It is against this backdrop and that of the Commission's continued commitment to fostering good working relationships with stakeholders in the society and its corporate social responsibility (CSR) that led our Matuga Constituency office to preside over elections for the Defence Forces Old Comrades Association (DEFOCA).

Defence Forces Old Comrades Association (DEFOCA) is a descendant of the Kenya Defence Forces Old Comrades Association which was established in Kenya immediately after the end of the Second World War to cater for the welfare of the Ex-servicemen of the First and the Second World Wars. In 1961 the Association adopted a new name to be known as Kenya Defence Forces Old Comrades Association (DEFOCA). The main objective of the DEFOCA is to promote the welfare of serving and retired members of the Kenya Defence Force. The Association currently has 21,858 registered members countrywide.

The IEBC was invited to conduct elections for the DEFOCA Kwale County Leadership comprising of: Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. This is an arm of the Honorably Retired Officers was organized by the Government of Kwale County.

IEBC thoroughly prepared for the elections by first conducting voter education sessions with the officers as a foundation to how the election was to be conducted. This was coupled with preparation and timely dispatch of strategic and non-strategic election materials.

The election took place smoothly with all officers accepting the results and branding the exercise as transparent, free and fair. At the end of the exercise winners were presented with certificates and encouraged to undertake their mandate within the confines of the law and embrace all members of the Association.
