IEBC Presides over Student Council Elections for St. Theresas Girls

On 26th July, 2019 the Commission through the Bobasi constituency supervised student's council election for St. Theresas Nyangusu Girls secondary school. The Secondary School is a girl boarding school located in Ritumbe Ward, in Kisii County. The election was conducted in-line with the IEBC's CSR initiative to foster a culture of democracy and good governance in schools.

Preparations for the election commenced with voter education sessions with students, the school administration and teachers. The sessions provided an opportunity to demonstrate the voting procedure, roles of the various election officials and how to mark ballot papers. At the end of the sessions, roles that each party would play in the election were defined: students would play the role of polling and counting clerks, teachers would serve as presiding officers or deputy presiding officers while the role of Returning officer and the deputy returning officer were to be played by constituency CEC and CAA respectively.

The elections had for eight elective positions namely; President, Deputy President, Sanitary Secretary, Laboratory Secretary and Class Secretaries for Form 1W, Form 2W and Form 3W. All 351 registered voters (students) cast their votes in the election. The election was peaceful and conducted in a smooth manner that portrayed transparency, resulting in free, fair and credible election. The winners were there after issued with the certificates by the Returning officer.
