IEBC Successfully Conducts Kibra Poll

The Commission successfully conducted the Kibra MNA by-election on Thursday, November 7, 2019. The by-election was occasioned by death of Hon. Ken Okoth on 26th July, 2019 from complications caused by colorectal cancer.
The Commission undertook sufficient training of election officials, early dispatch of election materials and briefing of relevant stakeholder prior to and during the exercise, to ensure the election was free, fair and credible. The campaign period ended on Monday 4th November, 2019 at 6pm being 48 hours to the by-election as required by law.

Of the 24 candidates cleared to run in the by-election, Okoth Bernard Otieno of ODM Party emerged victorious with 24,636 votes after beating his closest challenger McDonald Mariga of Jubilee party who garnered 10,280 votes out of the 42,037 valid votes cast. The turnout was 35%. Kibra Constituency has 5 wards, 183 polling stations and 118,856 registered voters.
