Stakeholder Engagements ahead of Kibra by-election
 28th Oct 2019

The Commission is committed to ensuring the 7th November, 2019 MNA by-elections in Kibra are conducted in a transparent, credible and violence-free manner as this will reinforce IEBC's commitment to Moving Kenya Towards a Stronger Democracy. With less than two weeks to the by-election the Commission has intensified stakeholder engagements and voter education with a goal of encouraging peaceful elections, increasing voter's participation in the by-election, and reducing spoiled and rejected votes.

It is against this backdrop that the Commission met with Political Parties, Candidates, Security Agents and Government Officials on 22nd October, 2019 to brief them on the level of preparedness for the Kibra MNA by-election. The meeting also gave the Commission an opportunity to encourage the stakeholders to adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct in order to create a climate of tolerance, free political campaigning, and open public debate that will go along way in promoting conditions that are conducive to free and fair elections.
The Commission also met with special interest groups: Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) on 23rd October, 2019 to equip them with information about the electoral process with a view to increasing their participation in the upcoming by-elections. The groups are also community ambassadors in the Constituency who will work alongside ward based voter educators to educate voters on the voting procedure, how to mark a ballot paper, votes tallying, and results transmission among many others.
The Commission plans to meet with Election Observers and the Media on 30th October, 2019.
