Update on Migori Senate and Central Sakwa CAW by-elections

Nairobi, 6th September, 2018

Training of poll officials for the October 8th Migori County Senate and Central Sakwa (Siaya County) by-elections will be conducted as follows:

  • Top level officials- the Trainers of Trainers (TOTs), Returning Officers (ROs) and Deputy Returning Officers (DROs)- 17th- 28th, September, 2018.
  • Presiding Officers (POs), Deputy Presiding Officers (DPOs) and Clerks- 1st -6th October, 2018

The electoral body will recruit the temporary poll officials from the list of officials who have previously been employed to conduct elections. The Commission is also engaging with security agencies to ensure that the by-elections are not only free and fair but also peaceful. The IEBC’s Returning Officials will make arrangements with education officials to ensure minimum disruptions to learning where schools are used as polling stations.

Migori Senate and Central Sakwa CAW seat fell vacant following the death of Ben Oluoch Okelo and Joanes Andiego respectively. The candidates who were cleared to vie after presenting their nomination papers to IEBC’s Returning Officers on 9th and 10th August, 2018 are:

Migori Senate (388,633 registered voters, 826 polling stations)

  1. Ochilo Ayacko (ODM),
  2. Ogola Dickson (Independent)
  3. Jobando Peter Osieko (Green Congress Party)
  4. Oketch Eddy Gichuru (Federal Party of Kenya)
  5. Otieno Samuel Otieno (Independent)
  6. Rugaria Solomon Hodo (Peoples Democratic Party)

Central Sakwa County Assembly Ward (11, 827 registered voters, 23 polling stations)

  1. Charlton Andiego Odhiambo (ODM)
  2. Namal Kenrick Orony (CCP)
