 11th Mar 2022

The Commission held a management workshop to consider, review & validate voter registration, electoral operations and electoral training documents/manuals in Nakuru from 21 to 25 February 2022.

The participants were polishing up the documents in readiness for presentation to the Commission’s management for adoption and use in conduct and management of the 9th August 2022 General Election. They would also produce digitized and animated training aids for specific electoral processes.

Marjan H. Marjan, the Commission Secretary/CEO, said that the activity would yield production of important manuals which should be revised periodically to align them with new laws and realities on the ground. “Some of the manuals have already been tested in by-elections and will directly inform how the Commission conducts the 2022 General Election,” he said.

Ag. Director Voter Education, Partnership and Communication (DVEPC), Joyce Ekuam, added that the reviewed documents will spell out how electoral processes will be conducted to meet the democratic aspirations of the people of Kenya. “The complementarity of all directorates present at the management workshop drives a common goal of positioning the Commission as a citadel of credible information on election management in Kenya,” she said.

Director Voter Registration and Electoral Operation, Rasi Masudi, said the objective of the workshop was to subject the documents to peer review to conform to best practices besides providing a platform for management to review them. “This workshop will produce an updated, participatory, simple and user-friendly Election Training Manual Guides and Standard Operating Procedures,” said Masudi.

The CS/ CEO lauded the work done by the management and pledged to secure more resources to appraise all manuals. “Election is a process and the Commission must conduct its activities by following the law and all Commission staff are required to be acquainted with relevant laws on conduct of elections,” said Marjan.
