IEBC builds youth capacity on electoral process
 2nd Dec 2021

The Commission held a 5-day workshop for Youth Coordinating Committee (YCC) members to build their capacity on the electoral process and timelines. The workshop, which took place from 29 November to 3 December 2021 in Machakos County, was organized by the Directorate of Voter Education, Partnerships and Communications (DVEP&C) with support from County Election Managers Joseph Merem (Nairobi), Eisha Mohamed (Makueni) and Joyce Wamalwa (Machakos).

Dr. Joseph Mele took participants through the Elections Operations Plan (EOP), Eisha Mohamed made a presentation on voter education strategies ahead of ECVR II and 2022 GE, while Joyce Wamalwa had a tutorial on identifying gaps in meaningful engagement of youth in the electoral process.

The YCC members are expected to mobilize youth to participate in IEBC’s programmes and activities in the 47 counties and 290 constituencies across the country, and provide support in development and distribution of youth targeted voter Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials.

The workshop brought together 37 participants from different youth-serving and youth-led organizations around the country including Universities and College Students’ Peace Association of Kenya (UCSPAK), Siasa Place, Youth Café, Badili Africa, Youth Agenda, Policy Talks Africa, Election Observation Group (ELOG) and National Youth Council.

YCC is a consortium of youth led and serving organizations that promote peace and good governance in the country. It creates and coordinates activities that will offer a conducive environment and opportunities for young people to significantly engage in the electoral processes.
