IFES Director for Africa pays courtesy call, pledges continuous support to Commission

International Foundation for Electoral Support (IFES) Regional Director for Africa Clara Cole last week paid a courtesy call to IEBC's Commission Secretary/CEO, Marjan Hussein Marjan, MBS.

The two had fruitful discussion including evaluating IFES' support to IEBC over time and agree on potential areas for collaboration to assist the Commission meet its Constitutional mandate.

The discussions also covered IEBC's approach to managing misinformation and disinformation, digital media and social media influence on elections management, pre-election activities, status of the electoral boundaries exercise and the National Dialogue Committee report.

Additionally, the meeting deliberated on the proposed artificial intelligence guidelines for election management bodies that were unveiled during the Artificial Conference held in Nairobi on 16th and 17th March 2024.

The CEO appreciated the immense support that IFES provided in the lead up and during the 2022 General Election and the renewed support that was availed post 2022 GE. Mr Marjan also shared a number of possible areas for partnership and collaboration between IEBC and IFES.

Ms. Cole, on her part, acknowledged the Commission's appreciation and assured that IFES will continue to commit to the collaboration and will explore all the opportunities available to ensure the Commission delivers on its mandate.

Ms. Cole was accompanied by Mr. Obaje Ukeh, Country Director IFES Kenya, Ms. MacKenzie Hempe, Senior Programs Officer IFES Africa and Ms. Dorothy Atieno, Senior Programs Officer IFES Kenya.
