IEBC conducts External Elections in Turkana
 3rd May 2019

The Commission as stipulated under article 88 of the constitution is mandated to conduct or supervise referenda and elections of any elective body or office. It is for this purpose that the Commission commits to undertake elections for organizations and schools as a way of inculcating democratic tenets in potential and existing voters as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

On 2nd February 2019, the IEBC Turkana County office presided over Turkana County Drivers and Transport Association (TUCODTA) election,as requested  by the Association's sub-committee.

The Commission provided electoral materials, conducted voter education, monitored campaigns, trained officials, supported designing & printing of the ballot papers and supervised the voting process.

The election had four elective positions as provided for in their governing constitution. The positions are: Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, General Secretary and Treasurer.

The commission used the opportunity to urge eligible voters especially the youth to register in large numbers in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) happening across the country except electoral areas with pending by-elections. He further encouraged media houses present (KBC TV, Radio Maisha, Radio Akicha and a host of local FM stations) to sensitize the public on Voter Registration and other electoral activities.

The Commission will continue partnering with willing organizations and schools to conduct  elections as  such initiatives will ensure  exposure to electoral information.
